The thought behind Adventure Therapy For Women was quite simply a way to give a woman the motivation to accomplish something larger than herself.

Believe it or not, you can actually get sick holding yourself back and not allowing your body/spirit to be pushed to it’s limit from time to time. In this instant the word therapy isn’t being used as a term for psychotherapy, I’m in no way qualified in that type of therapy.
The type of therapy I’m talking about here is the kind you are really going to allow yourself. It’s going to be more of a self-therapy type of program. You are going to finally listen to your intuition, the need to interact more with nature, to exercise your body more, to eat healthier and feel like you’re on top of the world.
Let me ask you this…
Do you ever have….
  • A lack of energy?
  • Feel unhealthy in the since that you know you just aren’t taking care of yourself like you should? This could be because all the time you put in your career and or family and there just never is enough time for you?
  • Are you unmotivated?
  • Do you feel guilty thinking about doing something for yourself?
  • Feel this need to do something…bigger than yourself, but don’t exactly know what that is?
  • Do you have a need to get outside and be more apart of nature?
Women are powerful creatures. There are so many incredible parts to us. We are the caregiver, the mother, the partner, the career woman, the fundraiser, the soccer mom and most importantly, we are a woman unto ourselves. However the latter is often times is at the bottom of our to do list, or not on the list at all.
Each of us are different and have different needs. What your soul needs, probably isn’t what your friend, mother or sister needs are. These needs are going unfulfilled everyday. It’s all about everyone else and we don’t even have time to think about ourselves. This type of thinking will slowly kill our soul and make us sick.
Doing little things in our lives, that are all about us, can completely change our outlook on life. It can take you from feeling there is something missing in your life (which there is) feeling lost, and unmotivated to feeling like you have something to live for, to look forward to, to accomplish just for us.
Our bodies want to be pushed occasionally. It has a need to sweat, for that heart to beat nice and hard, and to experience a little fear or uncertainty isn’t a bad thing. Our body begs for adventure and when we don’t give it that, we can get sick mentally and physically.
What type of personal adventure goal would you like to set for yourself? Is there something in the back of your mind you’ve wanted to do but felt guilty, or silly for pursuing? I can relate to this. I’ve written an article all about this called, Big Red. You are not alone here. Whatever you do, don’t let those feeling keep you from an incredible experience.

Is there anything as horrible as starting on a trip? Once you’re off that’s all right, but the last moments are earthquakes and convulsions, and the feeling that you are a snail being pulled off your rock.
        Ann Morrow Lindbergh

The adventures that are pursued will be as different as there are women out there. Here are some examples to get your brain rolling with your own ideas.
·        Run a Marathon/Triathlon
·        Go on a group women adventure trips.
·        Learn to ride a motorcycle.
·        Go on a solo trip in our outside the country you live in.
·        Go to a grown-up summer camp.
·        Train to climb a mountain.
·        Go on a rafting trip.
·        Learn to fly an airplane.
·        Hike the Appalachian or Pacific Crest Trail. (Watch the Movie "Wild"
·        Get on a tennis team (this could work for many different types of sports)
·        What is it for you?

Once you decide what your adventure is, you work towards it and accomplishment you are going to become a brand new person. The way you think about yourself is going to change. You will have something concrete to be proud of yourself for. The more you love yourself, the more you can love your partner, your family and your friends.

Don’t be surprised when the people who know you start to tell you they see a change in you. You look happier and healthier. They are going to want to know your secret. They are going to what to have whatever it is your getting. Won’t they be surprised when they find out it simply setting aside time to nurture and love yourself, because really, that’s all your doing.

WARNING: Once you accomplish your first adventure you will have a thirst for many more adventures.  This is a good thing and your body will love you for it.
